What has caused the population decline in rural communities?
Q. The population in rural communities continues to decline as time passes. It seems like the internet, with its ability to conduct business without boundaries has the potential to provide rural communities the abiity to procure some business opportunities. With inexpensive land and a relatively inexpensive workforce...does it make sense? Why are there few communities that grow, as everyone migrates to larger cities?

A. people migrate to cities because that's where the jobs are. many smaller communities have tried to attract investors in order to bolster their economic base, but it's extremely difficult. there's a theory called critical mass, meaning you need a certain amount of whatever (capital, trained workers, work ethic) for something to happen. sadly many Americans have no clue; they say they want to work but when given the opportunity prefer to stay home and get drunk or watch daytime TV. this is why there's a certain % of the population considered unemployable, and it's not because they're very old or sick (other than perhaps mental illness).
